As per NCRB data for 2019-2021, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of crimes against women in 2021 at 56,083 last year. Rajasthan followed UP with 40,738 crimes against women and it was followed by Maharashtra with 39,526 such crimes in 2021. West Bengal (35,884) and Odisha (31,352) recorded the fourth and fifth highest numbers of crimes against women, respectively.

NCRB data shows over 15% rise in crime against women in 2021

There has been an increase of 15.3 percent in crime against women in 2021 as compared to last year, with the number of incidents of such crimes per 1 lakh population also witnessing a rise of 8 percent across India.

As per the data, a total of 4,28,278 cases of crime against women were registered in 2021, up from 3,71,503 cases in 2020, registering an increase of 56,775 cases during the year.

Similarly, the rate of crime against women, or the number of incidents per 1 lakh population, also went up from 56.5 percent in 2020 to 64.5 percent in 2021.
