Nagarcoil Custodial Death: A custodial death case from Tamil Nadu has come under the spotlight after police arrested the chief warden and two jail wardens in connection with the death of 35-year-old remand prisoner S. Sabari Varman at the Nagarcoil Sub-Jail.
According to police, Sabari Varman was lodged in the sub-jail as a remand prisoner. It is alleged that an incident took place inside the jail after he reportedly created a disturbance. Following the incident, his health deteriorated and he was shifted for medical treatment, where he later died.
A post-mortem examination reportedly noted 19 injuries on his body. After the report, police arrested Chief Warden Thirumalai Nambi Suresh, along with jail wardens Sivakumar and Jegan. All three officials have also been suspended from service.
Police are also investigating the alleged role of five other inmates in the case. Officials said evidence is being collected and the investigation is continuing to establish the exact sequence of events.
The incident has sparked public concern over custodial safety and prison accountability. However, the allegations against the arrested officials are still under investigation, and the final outcome will depend on the evidence and judicial proceedings.
