In the run up to G-20 Summit preparation Delhi Police imparted ‘Helicopter slithering’ training’ to its newly recruited commandoes. This kind of Helicopter based training is first of its kind effort by Delhi Police to train its commandoes. The slithering training was given to 55 male, 25 female & 15 SWAT commandoes. The exercise was conducted by using M-17 Helicopter assisted by BSF at ground of Delhi Police Academy, Jharoda Kalan, Delhi.
Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Mukesh Kumar Meena, Special Commissioner of Police, Training, Vijay Singh, Director/DPA, Uma Shankar Dy. Director, Training, DPA, Ashok Kumar Bishnoi, Dy. Director, Admn. DPA, and other officers of Delhi Police were also present during this exercise.
Slithering from a helicopter is risky procedure, not only for the pilot, but also to the person slithering down from an airborne helicopter. It is dangerous and tough as compared to the slithering exercise from a building or a tree. Delhi Police is giving training to its commandoes to send them for any evacuation in disaster or to deal with any terrorist incident.
For this training session, a makeshift helipad was prepared on the ground of Delhi Police Academy, Jharoda Kalan. A Border Security Force MI-17 IV helicopter, fitted with a slithering frame and trained men from BSF took off from Safdarjung airport and landed at Helipad of Delhi Police Academy, Jharoda Kalan. The commandoes did this exercise safely & smoothly and gained confidence. Sh. Mukesh Kumar Meena, Special Commissioner of Police, Training and Sh. Uma Shankar Dy. Director, Training, DPA also participated in slithering from helicopter thereby inspiring these trainees.
Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police, Delhi congratulated the officers on their successful performance during this helicopter slithering training session. He also acknowledged the support of Border Security Force (BSF) for this initiative.
