Delhi Police has initiated disciplinary action against a police officer after a video containing controversial comments went viral on social media.
The officer identified as Inspector Rajeev, who was posted as ATO Ashok Vihar and was temporarily handling the charge of SHO Bharat Nagar, allegedly made remarks during a public interaction suggesting that criminals involved in narcotics and other crimes were being released due to pressure from public representatives.
Issues Clarification
Senior officials clarified that the comments made in the video were irresponsible and not based on facts and do not represent the official position of Delhi Police.
The department stated that the remarks were made by the officer in his personal capacity during public interaction.
Immediate Disciplinary Action
Following the controversy, strict disciplinary action has been initiated against the officer.
Department has taken the following steps:
• The officer has been transferred to District Lines
• He has been removed from the charge of SHO Bharat Nagar with immediate effect
Officials stated that further action will be taken as per departmental rules and regulations.
Delhi Police Statement
According to DCP North-West District Akanksha Yadav (IPS), police teams acted promptly and further investigation is underway. Police officials reiterated that the force functions strictly as per law and on the merits of each case without external interference.
The department also reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against crime and narcotics activities in Delhi.
